Albany’s 1929 Hangar

Future Home of the Albany Air Museum

It all started when…

Debbie Origer heard a presentation on Evelyn Burleson, former manager of the Albany Airport from 1937-1941. Evelyn was an inspiration, second woman to be certified as a flight instructor, flew a 3-flags flight from Vancouver B.C. to Tijuana Mexico to encourage peace. The more Debbie learned of Evelyn the more she knew the story needed to be shared broadly. Then the historic hangar at the Albany Airport lost its long standing tennant. This was the chance, a place to serve as a home for not just Evelyn’s story but the story of aviation in Albany from the first Oregonian to fly a plane in Oregon to the long running Art & Air Fest, Albany has a long history with aviation and flight.

In partnership with City of Albany and the Albany Regional Museum a passionate team of volunteers will be working to bring a new museum to life inside the historic 1929 Hangar. As exhibits are developed and the building restored the space will serve as a home for activities and clubs related to aviation. Look for future updates here and through the Museums social media pages.
